This Is It: Souvenir Edition (2CD)

Released October 26, 2009 on Epic: the companion album to the concert film assembled from rehearsal footage of the tour Michael Jackson never performed. He died on June 25, 2009, weeks before the London residency was due to open, and this collection stands as the last release built from his own work.

The centerpiece is "This Is It," a previously unreleased song Jackson wrote with Paul Anka in the early 1980s, completed here with his brothers on backing vocals. Around it sits a career-spanning selection of the originals in their album versions, "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Black or White," "Human Nature," "Smooth Criminal," "Man in the Mirror," and more, sequenced to follow the show's intended running order.

The second disc carries demos and previously unreleased material, including an early version of "Beat It" and Jackson's spoken-word piece "Planet Earth." The Souvenir Edition packages the album inlay and discs inside a 36-page booklet of exclusive rehearsal photographs.
