Released August 10, 1979 via Epic: the album where Michael Jackson stopped being a former child star and became an adult artist. First full collaboration with Quincy Jones, recorded at Westlake and Cherokee over the winter of 1978, and the record that made disco sound like something a person could feel rather than something a room could dance to.

"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" opens on a whispered spoken intro and a bassline from Louis Johnson that has been sampled for four decades since. "Rock With You" and "Off the Wall" came from Rod Temperton, who wrote them before he had met Jackson. "She's Out of My Life" was cut in one take with Jackson crying at the end of it, and Jones kept the take.

This is the 2001 European Special Edition, remastered by Bernie Grundman and housed in a slipcase. Bonus material compiled by Bruce Swedien: the original 1978 demos of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Workin' Day and Night," plus new interview commentary from Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton on the making of the record, and an expanded booklet.
