// Liner notes
The original ten-track pressing, with the three Cascio songs Sony withdrew in 2022.
Released December 10, 2010 via Epic and MJJ Productions, Michael is the first posthumous Michael Jackson album, released sixteen months after his death and built from sessions recorded between 2005 and 2009 alongside older unfinished material. Ten tracks, assembled by Teddy Riley, Theron Feemster, Neff-U and others working from Jackson's vocal takes.
"Hold My Hand," the duet with Akon, opens it. "Hollywood Tonight" was built out from a 1999 session and carries a spoken bridge from Taryll Jackson. "Behind the Mask" reworks the Yellow Magic Orchestra original that Jackson recorded during the Thriller sessions and never released. Lenny Kravitz plays on "(I Can't Make It) Another Day." Kadir Nelson painted the cover, a single frame crowded with decades of Jackson iconography.
"Breaking News," "Monster" and "Keep Your Head Up" came from recordings made at the Cascio family home in New Jersey, and members of Jackson's family, his mother Katherine among them, publicly maintained the vocals were not his. Sony stood by them for over a decade, then in 2022 removed all three from streaming services and dropped them from later pressings, taking them out of the official discography. This is the original ten-track 2010 pressing. All three are on it.
