// Liner notes
Released 1 February 2002 by Panasonic, for the Japanese market, at a time when MiniDisc and MP3 had already pushed the cassette out of the mainstream. The RQ-CW02 is a playback-only machine in a see-through skeleton shell, sold at open price for around ¥2,000 and pitched in Panasonic's own catalogue as a first player for schoolchildren. The transport shows through the casing.
Panasonic's XBS circuit pushes the low end, auto-stop cuts the motor when the side runs out, and two AA cells keep it going for up to 24 hours on alkaline. No auto-reverse, no recording, no radio. This unit has never played a tape. Box, headphones and shell are all clean, and a fresh pair of AA batteries comes with it.
