// Liner notes
Written by the daughter of a Neverland housekeeper. Revised edition, with painter David Nordahl among its contributors.
First published December 12, 2014 via State of the Heart Fitness, Lisa Brisse's book on Michael Jackson is back in a revised paperback edition.
Brisse was a 13-year-old fan in a small Midwestern town in 1982. Her mother, Judi Brisse, later worked as a housekeeper at Neverland between 1993 and 1996, and Lisa spent the ranch's Family Days on the grounds without ever meeting Jackson himself. The book starts from that one degree of separation and moves outward: Jackson's life read as a struggle between ego and spirit, his public fall framed as a mirror held up to the same conflict in everyone, closing on the line "We heal the world when we heal our hearts through love."
Part memoir, part spiritual reading of the "Man in the Mirror" idea, with reincarnation and channeling in the mix. Brisse, a Santa Monica exercise physiologist and wellness coach, started writing a week before Jackson's death in 2009 and spent around six years on it. The spiritual claims are the author's own reading.
