Lekhfa الإخفا (LP)

Released September 22, 2017 via Mostakell, a collaborative full-length from three names that have turned heads in alternative Arabic music through solo work and high-profile collaborations. The three share singing, playing, and arrangement across the record, building everything around the dystopian poetry of Mido Zoheir, credited by the trio as the album's fourth member and one of the most prominent Egyptian poets of his generation.

The title is the Egyptian colloquial pronunciation of الإخفاء, concealment, fitting for a record built on grit, beauty, and an off-kilter sound. Voices and instruments fold into each other throughout, with Zoheir's poems running through the structure. The record functions as both a poetic work and A poetic work and a dense, theatrical soundscape, built to be sat with and returned to.

A record that anchored the post-2010 wave of Arab experimental music and remains one of the most important Arabic releases of the last decade.
