// Liner notes
The companion to Unreal Unearth, and home to "Too Sweet," Hozier's first No. 1 in both the US and the UK.
Released December 6, 2024 via Island, Unreal Unearth: Unending gathers the songs that grew out of the Dante sessions and spilled across the Unheard, Unaired and Eat Your Young EPs. Several are the circles of hell that never made the album: "Too Sweet" for gluttony, "Wildflower and Barley" with Allison Russell for limbo, "Empire Now" for violence and "Fare Well" for the climb back out. "Too Sweet" is the sly one, a swaggering toast to staying up late against a lover who goes to bed early, and it went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
Around it, "That You Are" pairs him with Bedouine, "Nobody's Soldier" and "Through Me (The Flood)" carry the album's gospel weight, 2022's "Swan Upon Leda" returns, and the previously unreleased "Hymn to Virgil" is named for Dante's guide through hell. These are the outtakes of a concept record, and they read like a second act.
This is the Companion Version: one Raw Ochre LP of ten tracks never before pressed to vinyl, in an expanded trifold built to hold your original Unreal Unearth alongside it. Inside sits a 2CD edition, with the sixteen album tracks on disc one and the eleven companion tracks on disc two.
