// Liner notes
Will leave you in a trance. Built with Arca, Paul Epworth, Clams Casino and Sampha, and shortlisted for the 2014 Mercury Prize.
Released August 6, 2014 via Young Turks, LP1 is R&B taken apart and reassembled in zero gravity. FKA twigs sings in a breathy filament close enough to fog the glass, threaded through beats that drip, clank and hiss: Arca's fractured architecture on "Lights On," Emile Haynie's slow-motion pulse on "Two Weeks," Paul Epworth's elastic, bass-heavy strut on "Pendulum," Sampha's hand on the bruised minimalism of "Numbers." Songs start tangled in their own murk and resolve only when they choose to.
"Two Weeks" stages a seduction as a dare, "Video Girl" turns her years dancing in the background of other artists' videos into a ghost story about being seen and never recognised, and "Give Up" lets her voice stand almost alone. Pitchfork's Philip Sherburne called it a monumental debut. The records that have tried to sound this weightless since make the stronger case. It reached No. 16 in the UK and No. 30 in the US.
12-inch black vinyl, new and sealed.
